A great big brick 'o' fun. First let's start with the nitty gritty. I am in no position to review the Xbox. I am extremely old, do not own any other consoles and my last gaming experience was with my Amiga A500. And that never really matched up to the Commodore C16's with "Winter Sports" loaded on the cassette deck.

Ok, but you've actually come here to read this, so what do I think?

Well, at the moment it is the "Halo box". All the time, no exceptions. And now it is connected by a Joytech advanced cable to the 5.1 sound system, awesome is the only word. Or as the kids would say "Woah, dude!". Or perhaps they wouldn't. Incredible surround sound, accurate enough to pick out the location of the "baddies", fast and rich graphics, no visible slow down even when confronted by a host of sprites, widescreen capabilities (although alas not on Halo) complete an audio visual treat.

Audio cds can be recorded to the hard disk and played back as an in-game soundtrack, and an add-on is available to make this a region-2 only DVD player of reasonable (if noisy) quality.

Priced at well under £200 including £180 worth of games and accessories make the purchase a no-brainer. If you have the money and no life, Xbox gaming is the way forward.
